Wake Forest IrishFest Writing Competitions Held On Sept. 26th, 2009 At Festival Park

1st
WAKEFOREST IRISH FESTIVAL WRITING COMPETITIONS

On September 26th, 2009, the first annual Wake Forest Irish festival will be held at
Festival Park, Wake Forest, NC. To help celebrate WakeForest’s national and international reputation for fostering the Arts, we have decided to incorporate two writing competitions – a short story contest and a poetry contest.  These competitions are in proud and loving memory of two young men who shared a passion for writing. They left behind a rich legacy of the written word.  So we are proud, in their honor, to add the following events to the inaugural Wake Forest Irish Festival: The Andrew Britton Short Story Competition & The Graham Johnson Poetry Competition.

The Rules

  • No entry form is needed. Entry is by post, or by email if required.
  • You can make as many different entries as you like, in either or both competitions. $15 per story; $10 per poem.
  • There is no restriction on theme or style, and all are welcome.
  • Entries should be submitted on standard A4 paper, double spaced type, and with no name showing on script.
  • Maximum 2,000 words for the short stories; maximum 50 lines for the poems.
  • The winning stories and poems must not have been published previously.
  • The judges' verdict is final.
  • No correspondence will be entered into once work has been submitted.
  • Stories or poems cannot be altered or changed after they have been entered.
  • Both competitions are open to writers of any nationality writing in English.
